The next reunion for those associated with the early years of the UEA Music Department will take place in London on Friday 6th October 2017 at the Tas Restaurant, 33 The Cut, Waterloo SE1 8LF. We aim to meet from 12.30 onwards, with lunch at 1pm, and some of us will doubtless go on for a riverside drink at The Founders Arms, on the South Bank between Blackfriars Bridge and Tate Modern. The Tas is just 140 yards from Southwark tube station on the Jubilee line, and is a short walk from Waterloo National Rail station. Click here for a map.
19 of us gathered for a most enjoyable lunch in October 2016. It was a particular pleasure to welcome Michael Nicholas, who joined the faculty in 1971 (the year in which he was appointed Organist and Master of the Music at Norwich Cathedral) and to see once again Michael Lloyd, who was one of the first two undergraduates in the department. Lively chat at the 2016 lunch:
After lunch at The Founder's Arms, next to Tate Modern, in 2014:
For 2017 it will be payment on the day for whatever you consume, as usual. Prices at The Tas are reasonable and they specialise in an interesting range of Turkish food, with a good selection of vegetarian dishes, as well as meat, fish, seafood and salads.
Those hoping to come to the lunch in 2017 include Julian R, Michael L, Rosemary, Paul, Tony O, Bryn, Bob and Sheila, Helen, Alison, Colin, Rex and Wendy. Check back here later as more names will be added as replies come in.
We very much hope to see you in October and promise an especially warm welcome to those who have not been to one of these lunches recently. Click here to see pictures of our large-scale reunion at The Arts Club in 2010.
